Help.

Thu Nov 5, 2009, 11:22 PM
I'm having a hard time deciding on which is a better surface for painting, hardwood or plywood? I'll be using acrylic paint and gel medium. Maybe you guys can help me decide by giving me pros and cons.

Thanks.

I always use board that's been prepared with gesso before I even buy it... :faint:

hardwood's heavier, tougher, more enduring, may have residual plant resin in the grain which may affect the paint in the long run, less prone to humidity warping

Gessoed wood? So that means it's all white and primed?

Yes! :eager: You can gesso it yourself, but I prefer these pre-gessoed boards; specifically the ones Ampersand® manufactures... [link]

Oh, they look great. I don't know if we have pre-gessoed boards here, but I guess we have I just don't know where.
Actually, I only want my wood polished and the natural grain retained. :) I love wood.
